Greenoak holdings sells its businesses in Georgia

Greenoak Holdings and its partners have sold Batumi Oil Terminal Limited and Batumi Sea Port Limited to KazMunaiGas, the state oil company of Kazakhstan. This follows from the strategic alliance created in 2006 between Batumi Oil Terminal and KazMunaiGas.

Mogens Hansen, CEO said: “Creating, developing and now selling Batumi Oil Terminal and Batumi Sea Port is a perfect example of a success story in Georgia. In 1999 when we acquired the terminal, it was run-down, with many polluted areas and a lack of proper facilities. We took the risk and invested in Georgia. With over US $ 200 mio invested, with the cooperation and dedication of all the staff, and with management excellence, the terminal was upgraded to a high international standard with the best engineered equipment. The annual transshipment capacity of the terminal is now over 15 million tonnes. The Batumi Sea Port, which was acquired in 2006, has begun to develop along similar lines and will soon be lifting the first container in its history. Both businesses will continue to develop and provide jobs for many Georgians.

The Kazakh government with its huge oil reserves is an excellent strategic match for securing the company’s future growth and development. With Kazakh involvement it will be possible to have a stable flow of oil via the transit corridor, thus supporting more than 20,000 Georgian workers on this route in addition to the already more than 2,000 employees in Batumi Oil Terminal and Batumi Sea Port.

We will continue to manage both facilities on behalf of KazMunaiGas for the foreseeable future.

We are proud of what we all have created together; we are equally pleased with the prospect of KazMunaiGas leading these prestigious companies forward to reach new heights.”
